June 25, 2021
We are getting ready to open up the performance space! Thursday, July 1 is the grand rererereopening of MOB [email protected] We have great lineup coming together over the summer. Check it out here ASYLUMforARTlive.com. Our menu will now include a 5 course wine paired option and a martini menu. Lockdown hasn't been an idle time for us! Even though all the regulations are being dismissed, we will still be following some of the covid ethics until at least our staff has all had a chance to get immunized. We're taking it day by day. See you next weekend!
We will be firing up our classes again in a small way for the summer... just one group youth guitar class and one group adult guitar class with the plans to get some of the performers to do some weekend workshops and perhaps some other cool activities.
So very happy to be back!
ABOUT the ASYLUM for ART
For 25 years we have been bringing the highest quality education and performances. We now, in our new location at 2505 14 St SW, have the opportunity to step up our game. We opened our doors January 2020 and have assembled a great cast of teachers and performers to provide the best music in the city!
WHAT WE OFFER...
July - August
This class is for the adult complete beginner who has never picked up the guitar or only knows a few chords and is having trouble making it sound like something anyone but your mother can love. We will learn:
Holding the guitar
Your first 10 chords
Time signatures and how to keep time
You will be in a group class with other music lovers at your age and playing level and will learn many skills, including how to play a variety of fiddle music and how to play with others as an ensemble in a supportive and fun environment. Hone your skills in the art of fiddling in private lessons as well!
Plus, this is the only class you get to sit in the back and fiddle around…
Every instrument plays an important role in a band. This program will introduce students to the staple 'garage band' instruments and hold space for the exploration of each role.
A healthy blend of sound exploration, creating a musical team and honing the foundations of playing music in a group is what this program is all about!
By the end of the program students should have a small set of pieces that they will be reasonably comfortable playing in a ‘jam’ setting.
Mondays, we have the Campfire Ukulele class
Tuesdays, we have the Campfire Guitar Bootcamp 101
Wednesdays, we have Garage Band Class
Thursdays are the Free Open Days
Fridays, we have Music Theater Through the Ages
Learn about songwriting, arranging and how to turn a “jam” into a song. Song forms, creating set lists and different performance techniques will be demonstrated to bring all the hard work together for a cohesive, entertaining and rehearsed show.
Students will have an interactive experience on how to take a bands’ music to the next level and what is involved with playing gigs and then ultimately heading into the recording studio and releasing material.
Exercising musical and social skills while being challenged creatively is what the Youth Garage Band classes are all about.
