Youth Hip Hop – Poeticism and Liturature

For age 12 – 18
In this class, students will study the basic foundations to vocal rhythm (i.e. note stretching, rests, annunciation and syllable counting). Students will practice and enhance their mental capacity to construct complex multisyllable rhymes, through freestyle warm up exercises, and ice breakers. In addition to learning rhyme and rhythm, students will also learn to adopt key literary skills (such as hip-hop grammar structure, metaphors and descriptive writing) to compose music or poetry pieces that can later be performed publicly at a later date should the student feel at liberty or confidence to do so. The purpose of this class is to be a therapeutic outlet and/or an opportunity to hone skills for a possible passion career. There will be no grades for this program, but there will be a periodic survey review with feedback on the areas students would likely prefer to focus on.
We will focus on the pen and pad. This group will be free to focus on just writing and performing. If they truly feel they want the initiative, they can even submit their music for production and even shadow an engineer to see and learn second-hand on what goes on behind the scenes of a song production.
