Heather Blush

Heather Blush has a degree in music from Brandon University (Brandon, MB, 1997) and a degree in music therapy from Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL, 2000).  After several years working as a music therapist in many settings, she left to pursue her career as a professional musician.  Her band Heather Blush and The Uppercuts has toured across Canada and released 3 albums, and her children’s duo, Rattle and Strum has played many festivals and theatres and released two albums, receiving a prestigious Parents' Choice Gold Award (US), and being nominated for two Western Canadian Music Awards and a Canadian Folk Music Award.  Together with Heather Music has been providing music classes and entertainment to thousands of children in preschools and daycares in Calgary since 2011.  Heather draws on her years of experience to design music classes for young children that are engaging and fun, with the philosophy that children learn best through play.  A typical class may involve dancing, playing instruments, puppets or other visual aids, and more.  You can see a sample class on YouTube here:

Together with Heather Music classes are designed to instill a lifelong love of music, starting at a young age. Based on the understanding that children learn best through play, the focus is on being involved and having fun. The kids don’t even realize how much they’re learning! Besides early music concepts involving tempo, pitch, and rhythm, other important pre-school concepts such as sharing, turn-taking, and being brave are approached, all in a comfortable group setting where children are encouraged to participate at their own comfort level. In any given class you can expect dancing or movement, introduction to a new instrument, puppets or other visual props, and more – plus LOTS of original music that parents enjoy as much as the kids. You may be singing the songs for years to come…
