TD JazzYYC Summer Festival ~ feat. Shannon Gaye & Tasha Lawson

For tickets, please visit JazzYYC.com

Born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria, Kristian is an accomplished pianist, drummer, composer & producer who has made Canada his home since 1995.

Growing up in a family of musicians, in Kristian’s home, music was revered and celebrated.  At six years of age, Kristian was accepted into the prestigious L. Pipkov School of Music where he completed twelve years of intense training as a pianist and percussionist.  Kristian’s natural ability, extensive training and passion for performance enabled him to tour across much of Europe by the age of nineteen.

Onstage Kristian has worked alongside some tremendous Canadian and International artists, including:  kd Lang, Randy Brecker, Alain Caron, Bob Mintzer, Wycliffe Gordon, The Tenors, All Star Brass and Order of Canada Big Band.  Kristian is a long-standing musical director for acclaimed trumpeter Jens Lindemann’s show “Brassfire”.  He is also a frequent pianist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Bill Runge Quintet and Vince Mai Project, both based in Vancouver.

On the recording studio front, Kristian is in demand.  He’s been a part of four Juno-nominated CD’s:  Desi G Lucid Dreams(2022) Lauren Spencer-Smith Unplugged Vol.1 (2020), Order of Canada Soloists Sweet Canadiana (2017), and Jens Lindemann and Tommy Banks Legacy Live (2016).

Shannon Gaye

Singer / Songwriter / Percussionist Shannon Gaye, described as “the slender singer with the big soulful voice” (Calgary Herald), cuts a powerful presence on stage.   From the most delicate melodies to sky-high, roof-raising licks, Shannon is in full command of her voice.  With Soul and R&B at its core, Shannon’s original material incorporates reggae grooves, blues riffs, sophisticated jazz harmony and hip hop elements.  Urban music with matter for the mind.

Under the musical direction of pianist extraordinaire Kristian Alexandrov, Shannon and her exceptional band have performed her compelling brand of Acoustic Soul at festivals and events across the country and have completed seventeen cross-Canada tours.  Shannon has released six original CD’s; a number of her songs have been featured in TV series and films in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.  The many months of recent “forced hibernation” gave Shannon & Kristian the time to write and demo a plethora of new songs for Shannon’s next release.  They’re excited for the opportunity to perform these new tunes in front of a live audience again.
