For Kids! Colour Me Sad
Colour Me Sad is the brain-child of tap dancer and educator, Alicia Ward. She choreographed and performed a piece called Colour Me Sad that helps young children explore and regulate their emotions. Mandy Morris, WCMA-nominated jazz vocalist and children’s artist, fell in love with the concepts the first time they saw it. Mandy was so moved by Alicia’s work that they insisted that they would write original music for it with help from composer and pianist, Matt Morris, to build on Alicia’s vision.
Colour Me Sad’s debut album, The Magic That Is Me, is a story of emotions told through tap dance and music. One night, just as Max drifts off to sleep, they realize all the colour in their awesome rainbow bedroom … is gone! Max begins their journey of discovering new feelings, both welcoming and overwhelming, by stepping into worlds of colour!
The show features all original music in various genres including jazz, disco and 80s synth that were written to highlight Alicia’s choreography as well as the emotions experienced by the young protagonist, Max.
