Due to the enthusiastic response to their first Tribute to Duke Ellington in November Jim Hutchison Jazz Works Quintet is returning to the ASYLUM for ART at 8PM on Saturday April 9th to perform their Tribute to the Duke II.  His broad repertoire and many collaborations with other jazz legends provides a rich tapestry of tunes to choose from.

Don’t miss the interplay of these fine musicians as they perform fresh interpretations of the Duke’s signature tunes such as Take the A Train, Satin Doll and Mood Indigo along with a number of other classics such as  Stella By Starlight, That Old Black Magic and Tenderly.

Calgary Vocalist and Band Leader Jim Hutchison’s Jazz Works Quintet will include five of Calgary’s outstanding jazz musicians for this performance.  Pianist Jon Day began classical training at the age of 4 and in 1994 completed a music degree in jazz performance on trumpet and piano from McGill after which he performed around the world until settling in Calgary in 1999 where he is a sought after performer, arranger and composer.  Bass player John Gray has been performing as an independent professional musician for over 30 years, has toured with Ray Charles and is the leader of the Ray Charles Tribute Band in Calgary.  And from their first tribute to the Duke is their outstanding drummer Andy Ericson and amazing tenor saxophone player Steve Williams, two of the busiest jazz musicians in Calgary.

ASYLUM for ART’s new MOB Café is an excellent performance venue with good lighting and sound as well as food, wine and beer to relax with to their smooth and energized groove!
