Michael Sarian Quartet - January 21, 2021\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/668834114?h=2422c72e96&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"930\" height=\"523\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Born on a warm Tuesday morning in\u00a0Canada, only to be whisked away to\u00a0Argentina at the age of 1, Michael Sarian\u00a0is a trumpeter and composer praised\u00a0for his \u201cunique compositional and\u00a0instrumental voice\u2026 reminiscent of [his]\u00a0lyrical contemporaries such as Ralph\u00a0Alessi, Ambrose Akinmusire or Avishai\u00a0Cohen\u2026certainly deserving of a large\u00a0audience and much recognition.\u201d\u00a0Friedrich Kunzmann, All About Jazz<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael relocated to New York City in&nbsp;2012 to pursue a master\u2019s degree in&nbsp;Jazz Studies at New York University,&nbsp;where he studied with great musicians&nbsp;such as Laurie Frink, Alan Ferber, Brad&nbsp;Shepik, Ralph Alessi and Mike Rodriguez.&nbsp;Michael has performed at the Montreux&nbsp;Jazz Festival, BRIC JazzFest, Getxo&nbsp;Blues Festival, Blue Note Jazz Club, Jazz&nbsp;at Lincoln Center, The Beacon Theater,&nbsp;Central Park SummerStage, Teatro Col\u00f3n,&nbsp;has appeared on WNYC\u2019s Soundcheck&nbsp;with John Schaefer, NPR\u2019s World Cafe,&nbsp;and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPerhaps Sarian\u2019s disposition&nbsp;to innovate \u2014 an inherent&nbsp;pivot away from the stringent&nbsp;politics of aesthetic identity&nbsp;in New York jazz \u2014 reflects a&nbsp;deeper pivoting in identity,&nbsp;one unique to a composer&nbsp;who, like many endowed with&nbsp;the tensions of a transnational&nbsp;or diasporic identity, cannot&nbsp;fundamentally belong.\u201d&nbsp;Raffi Wartanian, Medium<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His fourth album as a bandleader,&nbsp;New Aurora, released September 4&nbsp;with ears&amp;eyes Records, features a&nbsp;new acoustic quartet with Michael\u2019s&nbsp;horn at the fore-front as the sole&nbsp;melodic voice. His three previous&nbsp;releases are with his septet Michael&nbsp;Sarian &amp; The Chabones (Argentine&nbsp;slang for \u2018the dudes\u2019), most&nbsp;recently LE\u00d3N in August of 2018&nbsp;with ZOHO Music.
