Description

Calgary vocalist Jim Hutchison’s Jazz Works sextet is performing a tribute to the music of Duke Ellington at the Asylum for Art on Saturday November 27th. Downbeat is 8PM It will be an all-Ellington show including many of his classics, such as Take the A Train, Lush Life, Harlem Nocturne, Satin Doll and Mood Indigo. And the band will include some of Calgary’s finest jazz musicians for this not to be missed performance! Backing Jim Hutchison on vocals will be Steve Williams on tenor saxophone, Cedric Blary on clarinet, Mike Jones on piano, Jeremy Coates on bass and Andy Ericson on drums.

Pianist Duke Ellington was the greatest jazz composer and bandleader of his time. He led his band for more than half a century while composing thousands of scores, with his musical gifts translating into a body of music unequaled in jazz history. No one else in the history of jazz has expressed himself more freely or with more variety, swing and sophistication.

Jim and his sextet are excited to offer you some interpretations of his music as their Salute to the Duke!

The performance will take place in the Asylum’s MOB Café, a wonderful new performance venue with great lighting and sound as well as an interesting food and drink menu.
