About Course

This is a 60 min, 10 week class held Thursdays at 7:00 | April to June 2024
Instalment option at checkout

Delve into the world of fingerpicking guitar. This course takes you from step one and is intended for the guitarist who is comfortable with chords, but is looking for alternate ways to use those chords, explore different styles and learn some classic fingerpicking tunes.

At the end of the course, you should expect to know a variety fingerpicking styles and have a strategy to practice them and learn more. You will have the basic tools to all fingerpicking styles and serve as a starting point to more classes lessons or self study.

Immediately after this class is the Campfire Guitar Bootcamp 101 class, which is a great supplement for practice.

  • Week 1

Week 1
For those who are new to slide guitar, a demonstration and discussion regarding set-up, string gauges, types of slides, and the basics of producing a clean, rattle-free tone. Also, there will be a preview of future lessons and a Q&A.

Week 2
Two-string melody in standard tuning. You Got To Move, by Mississippi Fred McDowell

Week Three
Adding bass strings to You Got To Move for finger-style or flat pick.

Week Four
Slide licks in standard tuning, and muting techniques to block unwanted notes.

Week Five
Introduction to open tunings. We commence with open D tuning: DADF#AD

Week Six
Elmore James' iconic version of Robert Johnson's Dust My Broom.

Week Seven
More open D licks. No Expectations by The Rolling Stones

Week 8
Open G or "Spanish" tuning: DGDGBD. Muddy Waters' Can't Be Satisfied".

Week 9
Something different. Using slide guitar to imitate steel guitar licks in country and western swing, plus a look at Ry Cooder and Duane Allman.

Week 10
Review: We'll look at all we've done, and have a bit of am jam.
