The Waltzing Matildas have been making music together for nearly nine years. We are frequent performers in and around Calgary and the East Kootenays.

Jamie Newsom started gigging at the age of 18, playing upright bass in the Army/Navy/Legion circuit in the greater Vancouver area and then heading to the Maritimes to join the Saint Thomas University Big Band in Fredericton. From there he went on to lead his own bands, big and small. At some point Jamie decided to take up guitar, vocals and songwriting. A well-known musician currently living in Bragg Creek, Jamie also builds Celtic harps.

Val Hudson hails from Ontario, and her long career includes working as a session singer, lead singer/pianist/ guitarist in various Ontario bands; soloist with various orchestras, CBC TV appearances, and recording her original songs with Tommy Banks. Her two career highlights: being a singing Muppeteer in a movie and getting to sing Christmas carols at a private house party in Toronto accompanied by Oscar Peterson.
